Railway Gamblers, The Leadfoot Band Collaborate on 'Vinyl For A Cause'
BEVERLY — Two bands with Beverly roots have come together to cover an original song for Vinyl For A Cause — a charity effort benefiting VH1's Save the Music Foundation.
The Railway Gamblers and The Leadfoot Band will each cover one of the other's tracks for a vinyl single, commonly known as a 45. Only 500 of the albums will be made, said Matt Fricks, the lead guitar player for the Gamblers.
"We grew up with [Leadfoot], and they are a huge influence to us," said Fricks, 24, who remembers sneaking into shows to see the bluegrass band that was first formed in 2004. Leadfoot returned in 2011 after a five-year hiatus.
Steve Haberichter, 45, plays the mandolin, guitar and vocals for Leadfoot and was honored to hear that he influenced the Gamblers, who describe their musical style as folk rock or alternative country.
