Jamila Woods and Kevin Coval team up to benefit Young Chicago Authors

A new charity single released Tuesday brings together two of Chicago’s most distinctive voices, Jamila Woods and Kevin Coval, in a spirited dialogue.

The two artists take inspiration from each other’s work. Woods’ “Muddy” pays homage to Chicago blues great Muddy Waters, as inspired by Coval’s 2017 poem, “Muddy Waters Goes Electric.” Coval’s “Snow Day” finds warmth in the Chicago winter, the flip side of Woods’ 2016 ode to summertime Chicago, “LSD.”
